Classic Matcha Latte
We’re all for fun & playful matcha bevvies, but sometimes you just need a classic latte. And this recipe works on both counts—not only is it delicious sipped as it is, it’s also the perfect jumping off point for your own matcha creations!
When choosing your matcha, you’ll want to pick one that will give you the right balance of flavours. We suggest our Organic Grand Cru Matcha or, if you’re working with syrups or other additions, our Organic Matcha Matsu. Both are premium, ceremonial grade matchas, but the second has a slightly bolder taste that’s able to hold its own against other flavours in your drink.
These instructions are more of a blueprint than a strict recipe, so feel free to play around and make it your own. The only thing that matters is that you end up with a bevvie you’re happy to sip!
Things to Note: We recommend using a bamboo whisk—soak in hot water for about a minute before you start to keep it in good condition!
When you whisk your matcha, make an “M” (for matcha!) formation with your movements.
Using unsweetened matcha? Make sure to sift it to get the clumps out.
ingredients:
2-3 Perfect Matcha Spoons (1½-2 tsp) unsweetened matcha (use 5-6 Perfect Matcha Spoons, or 2½-3 tsp, for sweetened matcha)
120 ml (4 oz) hot water, not boiling*
180-300 ml (6-10 oz) milk of choice
Let your water sit for about 5 mins after it boils
recipe:
-
Measure your matcha into a matcha bowl and add about half the hot water.
-
Whisk it into a thick paste until there are no clumps.
-
Add the rest of the hot water and whisk it until it’s nice & frothy.
-
Froth the milk, then pour into a 16 oz cup.
-
Pour your matcha overtop. Make sure to pour slowly & carefully if you want a layered effect.
-
You just made a matcha latte! Take a sip to celebrate.
